.....Collaborative fiction

After losing JJ, her husband of over 30 years, she began caring for her grandson, Treyfor. Nanny had smoked Lucky Strikes since she was 15, and it showed in her parchment skin, her smoker's cough and the fact that her snoring might cause her to enhale a pillow.

Whether it was from loneliness or some sort of sickness, she forced her grandson to sleep with her, on the same side of the bed as her belated husband used to sleep. Being a light sleeper, Treyfor dreaded the evenings he would spend with Nanny, and would often attempt to sneak out and sleep on the loveseat in the parlour.

The incident came one evening as Nanny fell asleep smoking one of her beloved "Luckies." The lit cigarette ignited the grandson's pillow and quickly spread to the bedcloths and drapes around the bed. "Luckily," the grandson was already on the love seat and heard the cries of Nanny as the flames spread to her hair and burned her skin. The photo was taken the day of "the incident" and Nanny was never comfortable seeing her face "the way it used to look." <<<<<
