This photo has been missing ever since the "Incident." Some say the absence of the photo created more intrigue than the photo itself. I was just eight years old when the first story perked my ears.
The story was anything but black and white, contrary to its photographic script. Nanny had dressed in her Sunday best, complete with black patent-leather shoes and cameo necklace Grandmama gave her the day she married. Black and white, the cameo was. "How appropriate" she thought, "a chain around my neck, dangling the portrait of a woman, all women, encased in a black and white prison." Not exactly the thoughts a bride should have on her wedding day. Little did Theresa know just how many women had those same thoughts. Until that Saturday night.
Ten years had past before I heard the story of that Saturday night. What would make a wife and mother of fifteen walk off that porch, and leave her home behind? Where was she going? Did she know? Will I ever learn of the adventures or see the photo?
