The Gorgonzola Institute of the Brewing Arts was founded by Dr Barleycorn shortly after the close of the Spanish American War where he had served as aid to the future president Roosevelt. Returning from the sweltering Cuban Jungle, Barlycorn quickly located to the frozen tundra of Wisconsin and began brewing beer for fun and profit. As tales of his "Wisconsin Nectar" grew, hopeful apprentices began appearing on his doorstep demanding instruction. To his never-ending surprise, his talent as a teacher of the brewing arts quickly outstripped his talent as a brewer. The humble school grew quickly and by the turn of the century, the Gorgonzola Institute had moved into the stately brick fortress that it is today. (The Gorgonzola, by the way, derived it's name from the pungent smell of Mrs. Barleycorn's dining hall-- that cheese being a perpetual favorite of hers at every meal. Many students remarked much later in life that they never could smell that cheese without being flooded by memories of the institute.)
